When restoring after residential fires, one of the biggest concerns is odor.  Depending on the type of smoke and building materials affected restorers often have to make the call on cleaning objects as opposed to material removal.  In this situation, knowing the affected building materials helped make the decision for material removal to aid in eliminating smoke odor.  For this fire the biggest aid in eliminating smoke odor was removal of the ceiling drywall.  This particular house had blown-in insulation throughout the attic space.  Accessing the insulation and removing it allowed for a fresh start and reduces the possibility of residual smoke odors.
